Iran, which has patiently hosted a large Afghan refugee population for some time, has been preparing to adjust its refugee policy in line with post-Taliban developments within Afghanistan. The new Iranian policy entails difficult political choices for the host government and possibly painful consequences for the Afghans in Iran.
