What are the developmental impacts of migration? What are the main causes of migration and how do development processes impact them? And, what is ‘policy coherence’ in the field of EU migration management? Read the MIGNEX final reports to find out more, and explore the underlying research.
6 years ago, funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme, the MIGNEX research project - Aligning Migration Management and the Migration-Development Nexus - set out to support more efficient, coherent EU migration management. The project found that ‘coherence’ is a contentious objective. It is used by the EU to push restrictive migration policies that impact the wider ambitions of non-EU partner countries, as well as the EU itself. In the report ‘Towards migration policy coherence’ the team set out 7 key findings on EU migration policy coherence; with recommendations for future approaches to third-country cooperation.
