A ‘Short Reader on Migrant Transnationalism’ has just been published – open access – in the IMISCOE International Migration Research Network's book series (Springer). It is a co-authored monograph by Özge Bilgili (Utrecht University) and Marta Bivand Erdal (PRIO).
‘Our hope with this book is to convey the value of a transnational lens, or a transnational perspective, as a critically important analytical, conceptual and methodological tool, not only for migration research, but for making sense of the world we live in’, the authors write in the preface.
The book consists of sections on (1) ‘What is migrant transnationalism?’, (2) ‘Approaching migrant transnationalism’, (3) ‘Economic, Sociocultural and Political transnationalism’, (4) ‘Migrant transnationalism meets integration’, (5) ‘Methodological approaches to the study of migrant transnationalism’ and (6) ‘Conclusion: Beyond ‘Migrant’ Transnationalism?’
The book:
- Describes the different dimensions of migrant transnationalism
- Includes empirical case studies from around the world
- Written in an accessible manner for students, researchers and practitioners
It is an outcome of long-standing discussions and collaboration which have included many PRIO Migration Centre colleagues, past and present, as well as international collaborators, not least in the context of the Migrant Transnationalism Standing Committee of IMISCOE, co-founded among other by PRIOites Jørgen Carling and Marta Bivand Erdal more than a decade ago.
The book can be accessed for free here, or you may order a print copy.
