Syrian refugee women in Northern Lebanon. Russell Watkins/DFID

This project looks at two of the most major refugee hosting states in the world, Turkey and Lebanon, have both been encumbered by the burden of hosting millions of Syrian refugees for well over a decade, while they have also been able to use the refugee crisis for their benefit in relation to European donor states and the EU, both in terms of securing aid but also obtaining political benefits.

This project will research how new regional and global realities have changed the bargaining power of refugee hosting states vis-รก-vis external actors such as the EU.
