Understanding the Interplay of Migration, Minorities, and Religion in European Societies Characterized by Migration-Driven Diversification

Migration-driven diversification is reshaping Europe’s demographic and re‍ ligious landscapes, with implications for education. Increasing numbers of young people grow up in families with migration backgrounds, inviting deeper engage‍ ment with the interplay of migration, minorities, and religion in European societies. This chapter reviews five selected research avenues which are often disconnected from the study of religious education: superdiversity, transnational social fields, religion and integration, intergenerational transmission of faith, and intergroup relations and discrimination. Through this, the chapter offers empirical and con‍ ceptual entry points for understanding how everyday realities of diversity shape educational spaces and practices, including in settings of formal and non-formal religious education.
