Education in situations of conflict and crisis is central in efforts to protect children and youth in the near-term and fostering peaceful coexistence over the longer-term. But how can education enable individuals and communities to build durable futures when there is great uncertainty about where these futures will be?
We See You is one of two animations focusing on refugee education, created through research for the REBuilD project conducted between 2018 and 2022. It highlights the education available to Syrian refugees in Beirut and illustrates the vital role teachers play in a challenging environment, where students are often viewed as intruders in Lebanese schools. They attend the same schools as Lebanese students but do so in a second shift, thereby avoiding interaction.
REBuilD is a collaboration between the Peace Research Institute Oslo and Harvard University. The Consortium further includes the University of Nairobi in Kenya and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. This interactive comic is created by PositiveNegatives and is intended for use in classrooms worldwide.
