Societal Transformation in Conflict Contexts (TRANSFORM) is a project conducted between 2017 and 2022. It examines how individuals and individual deeds have inspired collective action in conflict and civil war in Syria, Somalia, and Myanmar.

Three graphic narratives were created by collaborating with researchers from the Peace Research Institute Oslo, artists, creative professionals, and partners in Syria, Somalia, and Myanmar. These visual stories depict the extraordinary lives of individuals in each of these three nations.

Find all three animations created by PositiveNegative on their website. Each is available in two languages, and the Somaliland version also includes comics.

This virtual exhibition showcases the outcomes of a research project using innovative methods due to the wealth of captivating audio-visual material. The theme of ‘non-violent resistance’ holds great significance for reaching diverse audiences, particularly young people. The exhibition is organised into four chapters: the first outlines our working methods, the second and third present key findings, and the final chapter explores the transformational potential of our research.

The project was led by Research Professor Cindy Horst. In addition to Horst, project participants include Senior Researcher Marte Nilsen (PRIO), Senior Researcher Kjetil Selvik (CMI), Lecturer Tamar Groves (Universidad de Extremadura), Research Fellow Benjamin Dix (SOAS) and doctoral researcher Ebba Tellander (PRIO).
